Hey all,
I've been wondering, would anyone wanna help setup and show off our Mini-Z racing @ Guildford Mall in their Center Court?
I'd need people to help setup, breakdown and of course, hang out all day, race & chat with passer-bys that may have questions.
I've been in contact with the mall administration and they are okay with us bringing in a track & setting up a 1 day display. I am thinking of doing it on a Sunday.
Think of all the exposure we will get, and hopefully we can recruit some more racers!
I don't plan on racing a bigger car in the summer but others will be, that leaves turn out and race days at a minimum during summer.
I'd like to see if I can get at least 1 race a month in still.
What do you all think?
Good, Bad, Ugly?
So far, there really arn't too many costs involved in setting this up, basically the mall has said that we just need insurance in case a car careens off the track and hits someone etc. That is only around $80.
The mall can possibly provide some chairs & tables, and some of those expandable fencing posts to help keep people at bay. Of course we will let others try if we are willing to let people run our cars etc.
I thought I would just start up some talk about this and I'll be mentioning it this Sunday at our bi-weekly race.
We would be setting up under the 'R/C Club of Canada' http://rcclubofcanada.com/
Brian & Joseph are not allowed to sell or display anything for their shop, but they can hand out business cards. So this can also be an opportunity for some small exposure for them. Heck, we can all wear CRC Shirts. ;)
If I get a good response, our next step is to work with the mall on a date and get the insurance.
The cost could be covered by all those taking part and having donations from people that show at our races. Raffles, 50/50 draws at the races etc.
Lemme know what ya'll think!

YES! It would be nice to get one Z race a month during summer. I am all for it. Good planning Ryan. I will make sure I am free for the Mini-Z Sunday at the Mall.

That sounds like an awesome idea. I typically race out in Richmond but I'd defintely make it out for this. I'm sure I can convince a few others to do so as well.
I'm hoping to make it out to the next race day you guys set up. Looking forward to meeting some new mini z'er since racers will be scarce in the summer time.

Well, we should be setting up once again in two weeks time!
Hope to see ya there!
Anyone wanna start with the voting for the layout?
See http://www.competition-rc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=336
Well I guess we have to make this race a big event and make all LHS involve if were using the mall like same as the Atomic Race 4 years ago.

For sure!
The more the marrier!
We'll see how mny in our normal group will be able to make it out etc.
I will be contacting the mall again soon to try to narrow down a date.

Well all, the dates are in!!!
May 23rd or 30th.
Whom can do some digging to see if either of these dates conflict with any Off-Road racing? I'll do some digging, but I know more of you will know this possibly off the top of your head. (IE: Off-Road every other Sunday so one of those dates would be bad etc.)
We will hopefully be setting up one last ditch Mini-Z day before this Mall Exposition.
I will need plenty of people out to show off to hopefully gain more interest in our hobby.
I'll also need volunteers for tear down & setup etc. I'll get more info soon as to when we can setup. We may need to gather additional tables/chairs & fencing etc.
I may even need to call out for some small donations if we need to rent any of that as well, but we'll work that out as soon as we narrow down which of the two dates should work the best for everyone.
I hope to hear back from ALL of the regulars and if you have someone's phone # as they are not here on the BB, then be sure to have them contact me!
I will be sure to place cross postings on other sites as well soon, and hopefully get out to Blackmarkers soon to let them all know about it as well. =)

Well all, it's coming!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!
May 23rd @ CENTER COURT IN GUILDFORD MALL!!!
RC Club of Canada's Mini-Z Expo! :)
We will need as many people with their Mini-Z's to show as possible!
And please post on any other forums you can think of to get interest and attendance up!
I really wanna try and locally promote our Hobby.
We can gain additional racers & perhaps even hold racing during the regular off season!
The mall opens @ 10am on Sunday & Closes @ 6pm.
We will need people to show up early for setup.
Please PM me if you think you can help!
Access to the mall before 10 can be gained near the CIBC entrance.
There will be up to 5 tables & 10 chairs available via the mall, this should be enough for us to use. 1 for the Lap Counter setup, and 4 for the rest of us. That should be enough for 8-10 people to setup shop. We can see about possibly having additional Tables if people think they will be needed. I honestly don't know what kind of an attendance we are looking at for people to display & run.
Bring LOTS of Batteries, Your Chargers, Power Bars & Extension Cables.
We will setup a small track to run on.
The mall claims they will stanchion off the area.
Not sure how big they will allow us to grow.
I'm just awaiting reply back from them by tomorrow as she is out of office today.
More info to come.
PM me with questions etc.
I'm in for sure,. But how much we have to pay here per person or class ? needs more info like rules about whats class (stock or mod). sorry if I ask but somehow, somebody will going to.

I was talking to Brian & Joseph yesterday.
We will probably work something out ahead of time.
But remember, this isn't so much of a race day, it's more like a Show & Shine. =)
We will be having races here and there seeing we will have the track setup for approx. 8 hours! But there will also be a lot of open track time to just hone your skillls.
We will see whom shows, what they wanna do and then go from there.
I can see some races happening for sure, Stock & Mod.
We also wanna let people try them out as well.
So we will probably have some amateur races as well!
You can lend your car to someone to try out, just stand by them, help them, give them tips etc.
That's why I was mentioning, bring lots of batteries and maybe even some backup alkalines too to be sure!
We have talked about it, and as the space & insurance does have a cost, we would like to charge a $10 per person fee.
Please start saving up now, I want to see everyone there! NO EXCUSES! =)
Be sure to drop by the shop or PM Brian & Joseph, maybe we can talk them into some random door prizes for those whom come out!
That is all for now.

I'm thinking a layout like this one.
It's a bit technical, fast and compact.
We can just move the bumps around to get um outta the way of the start/lap area.
We can also move the start/lap location to the other end if needed depending on setup for the mall layout.
Thoughts?

Just one Q... Where in the mall? Where Santa usually goes by the smoke kiosk?

I'm totally for that.
The only other forum I am apart of is the RC P#t St#p Forum.
Don't speak it's name! ;)
Anyone else on there wanna take a stab at it or know of some other good forums to hit up?
FYI, Garry post in minirc.ca :)

So, now that the event has come and gone.
Do y'all think we should do another one?
If so, when? Say, again in like 2 months?
Should we try to do it bi-monthly on a go forward basis?
I'm interested in what y'all think!
Insurance might be a tad cheaper if we book a few outtings all at once.
I believe base guidelines will need to be changed out some.
I think perhaps not allowing children to come play with the cars?
Or have maybe one car setup for kids?
Our cars are not toys, but finely tuned racing machines! ;)
If we're looking for more of a racing type crowd and looking to get people interested.
Perhaps next time, ONLY if your interested in trying the cars out and possibly joining the club will you be allowed to try out a car.
I think asking to fill out the info sheet then allowing them to try next time might be a better bet.
We got VERY few people actually signed up stating they were interested.
Next time, I think we should start picking people out of the crowd that look like they may be interested, maybe they were embarrassed?
I know I'm a big kid and all, but it really made me feel like it when all we had were children and a VERY few teens & adults wanting to try it out.
What do you all think?
Feel free to chime in and leave your two cents worth! =)

I know what you mean, I lent out my truck to some kid and it came back broken!! OH BROTHER... JK.. LOL
But yeah, I agree. Its not just some kind of crash up derby, although that was extremely fun and entertaining its not how I like to full use my cars/trucks.
I'm into anther for sure. 2 months is lots of time to save up another 10 bucks!

I'll vote for bi-weekly, 2 months will be too long. I agree with Ryan, Miniz's not a toy for kids instead a hobby for adults, teasing the crowd to get one for themself will be a better way to get them into the hobby or joining the club. It's difficult for a beginner to take full control of the car at the first time, once they fail they will be disappointed and give up. The key word is to tease them to buy their cars first.

Really? Every two weeks?
I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that.
But we would need to look into insurance as it was close to $95 for the day.
We need to be sure we can get that covered and get enough racers out.
That is why I was thinking of stretching it out.
We may be able to get more people for showing off if it isn't as often etc.
Or, we just need to get more racers involved and for sure to come out.
I saw when we had people on the track people would come and watch.
It was a great day for sure.
We will have to work on getting another one setup for sure!
For me its should be okay in 2 months time and have lot of time to save 10 bucks like 4 mods say :D
Miniz's not a toy for kids instead a hobby for adults
There's the key there... Only problem is, is getting ppl to understand that... They see the RC cars and think "Oh.. Toys..." Then they'd SEE A Mini Z and think they're spot on about it being a toy... Then they see the prices and say it's too much for a toy...
The problem is informing the rest of the ppl about the difference in TOYS and HOBBY GRADE... Some don't see it... Some don't GET it... And some don't care... RC is RC is a toy to them...
Next time out, if I can make it, I'll bring along my big boys... My Clod and X-Trail and so on... And if someone DOES have a toy RC, bring it along and then we have a good comparison to show ppl the difference... I'll head up the "inform and educate" department for that seeing I don't have a Mini...

Two weeks, two months or in between - I'm in.
I like the "big boys vs little toys" demo as people need to be educated about "hobby grade products".
Keep the ideas coming.
Soo............people!!!!! How many more before the race now? I just can't wait to the next one LOL :D
