I posted up the New Years day Layout.
Hope to see ya all out there on the 1st!

I was wondering, since the last meet was a little smaller. Could we run the same track layout at the next meet? I really enjoyed that one, and I think some of the other members that couldn't make the last meet would also like it.
Thanks

I don't see why not?
It was a nice fast layout for sure!
Saves me from making another layout & gives Kevin a bit of time to come up with the next layout! =)

I second that. It was a great layout and I'd run it again.

Hi everyone,
xmodcanuck found me on mini-zracer and told me about this place. I am a complete RC newbie, just bought a MA-010 ASF on a Nissan Silvia S15 Formula D and waiting for a TX.
How newbie-friendly will the meets be? I am so newb that even if I had a transmitter I probably wouldn't be able to turn in the correct direction, ever. I've even screwed a yogurt lid to the front of my chassis because I expect to crash a lot, and I would feel bad if I damaged my own or somebody else's body...
I'm hoping to spend more money than I ought to at CRC, and if anybody has a beater body to sell I think I could learn to drive with a little less anxiety :)
Hope to meet some of you, around March or so if meets will still be happening!

gctkaz,
First of all, don't wait till MARCH!
Come out this Sunday!
For more details, see this posting: http://www.competition-rc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3299&postcount=4
Bring out your car, I am MORE than sure one of us will have an AM radio we can lend you to let ya run your car with for a while at least.
Or if not, again, I'm sure someone would be willing to lend you there car to try a few laps on.
Quite honestly, the layout we have for this GTG will work quite well for you!
It's rather wide throughout the whole run.
All of us started where your at, our group is pretty open to all levels of driving, we have some newbs, some more experienced, and then a pro or two amongst our midst's! ;)
Do what you can to make it out to at least meet some of us and we can give you tips & tricks for driving and maintenance of your car.
I hope to see ya out @ the track!

Thank you for the welcome, Rick.
I possibly have plans for this coming Sunday already, I will try to confirm tonight. The car is a 2.4GHz ASF, so I don't know if you guys will have an extra radio. IF my TX gets delivered tomorrow AND my original Sunday plans get postponed, I would love to drop by if the rest of you don't mind risking some demolition derby.
I might be able to make it to the February meet, it's just that 12th is getting a bit close to a crucial exam later in the month. I'll see how it goes.
By mid-March I should have my 1:1 vehicles insured so making the trip from UBC can be more enjoyable. See you guys soon.

It's Ryan, but I get Rick a LOT!
I've also been called much worse! ;)
I actually have an extra KT-18 that may work for you for that day!
It's odd that an 010 has 2.4 though, but no worries...
Just bring it out!
Do what ya can to even pop out for an hour or two.
I sent you an e-mail with the Newsletter notification.
So you have the address, a google map & my Cell #.
No excuse to not come by for an hour! ;)
I understand if you can't make it out.
We're trying for GTG's every 3-4 weeks year long.
Keep an eye out on this forum & your e-mail for other notifications.

MA-010 is the AWD. You're getting it confused with old school MR-01.
And, Geoff, I second the welcome. Come by for any amount of time if you possibly can. The more, the merrier.

What a way to embarrass myself, sorry Ryan! I knew it since I saw your name at the bottom of the event posting before I replied, even. Don't know how that came out.
Good news, nothing is happening on 15th so I will try to come out for the full day this Sunday if I can borrow a 2.4 radio! I have a pile of batteries so I should be able to support myself there. I might visit CRC later on if they are open and see if I can pick up some wheels and tires.
The car I have is this one (http://www.kyosho.com/eng/products/rc/detail.html?product_id=106685), but in white with racing graphics. Kind of wish I got the red one now...
So hope to meet you on Sunday Ryan, Dave, and others!
One thing that worries me though is that I haven't run the car yet, and I installed a bunch of aluminum parts including a servo saver which was a total b!tch. I think everything should be reassembled properly but I haven't been able to test it. Oh well, find out soon!

As Ryan said.
All are welcome.
It wasn't that long ago, all I did was provide a rolling road block for all to fear (I had a black slow moving car on a black track. Not to hard to figure out).
Now they still fear me cause I still get in the way =).
Come on out.
As Ryan said has a radio that should get you going.
Test out that car and those mods.
It's always fun.

Geoff - you gotta start some where, there is no better place then these Mini Z meets. Its also very nice to have someone more experienced verify how your car is working.
It will seem a little overwhelming at first but that won't last long, we're all just there for fun.
I'll be there with my "fleet" - yes I have been acquiring new toys at a rapid pace...

Geoff, no one cares about incidental collisions and scuffing bodies...just ask Dave about the numerous times he's hit me for no reason at all.
Seriously though, if you start with a stock car and focus on driving the line instead of "racing" you'll be more than fine...it's a good time meant for a fun gathering of RC enthusiasts.

Was tons of snow last night in Surrey but the main road are all clear. Its a long drive for you if conditions get ugly though.
DaveW

Roads are clear. Slight dusting tonight. No snow forecast till Monday and I know they're NEVER WRONG!
Make it if you can - don't blame you if you bail - it's a long drive to Whistler.

It's more about work (my business shovels snow) so after finishing 930ish I get cleaned up and race down there for 1230ish. With a snowfall expected for the highway this evening that'll make life difficult for the way back.
Have fun today guys.

Thank you for organizing, Ryan, and thank you to Dave & Mario & Simon & Vince & Steve & everyone else for your sportsmanship and tech advice. I hope I can have my tuning worked out a bit better for the next meet and I will work on my skills too. I felt very twitchy on the steering today, among other things.
It was tons of fun. See you next time!

Wicked time today, I had cars that worked!
Archive that track layout, pretty sure everyone loved it!
RFick73
01-16-2012, 11:33 AM
Yes, I had fun too!
I really gotta get my car back up to where it used to be!
Perhaps some different foam compound in the rear so I get more tracktion this time is in order!
That and I'm going to have to change the fronts now too as our gluing job didn't really hold up. =(
Keep an eye out for me getting back up in the polls again soon!!!
Maybe I'll stop loaning it out all the time for long periods and get an actual club loaner...
We can all talk about that at our next meet...
As of the next meet, the club should be on par for the 1/3 payback of the new track pieces & club transponders.
(Which I've lost one already!? Who has it, please speak up if you have a loaner transponder from me...)
cowboysir
01-16-2012, 01:24 PM
Ryan,
before you go and buy a "loaner" give me a buzz because I'm thinking that I'll pare down my fleet of cars (since I'll probably only need 2 loaner cars for Whistler now)
That'd mean I'd have 2 Ex10 TX with modules, a KT18/MR02 asf package available and a couple different cars available.
No big hurry to sell stuff so no stress to chat about it...I'm going to give my neighbor first chance because it'd be nice to convince him to share the gas money heading south once in a while. (he races SC trucks in Bellingham so it'd a shorter commute)
Looking forward to the next meet!

02-06-2012, 08:41 PM
There will be a few of us running our cars "stock" this weekend, basically meaning pretty much all Kyosho other then wheels/tires(we will be using rubber tires only) This includes using the box stock Kyosho motors that were included with the chassis. Anyone else wanna give it a try?
gctkaz
02-06-2012, 08:57 PM
I'd rather not overhaul my AWD, but my 2WD is pretty much stock except for knuckles, bearings, and a 8T pinion. I can swap these out pretty easily.
How do you guys do it quickly? Do you keep a complete stock rear end that you just bolt on?
TheSteve
02-06-2012, 09:13 PM
Well bearings I consider a stock item, same with the 8 tooth pinion as its included with any MR03 kit.
As long as you have the stock Kyosho motor just run it as it is.

I may just have to pick myself up a mini cooper body!
What wheelbase are they?
Anyone got a line on a good deal for a paintable White or Yellow & Black Mini Cooper body?
Had a total blast today! Cant wait for the next gtg:)

Me too, wicked time today! I'm ready to charge the batts and get back on track!
RFick73
02-12-2012, 06:47 PM
We had a grand total of 16 guys toss a car on the track at one point or another throughout the day.
I think we had about 14 at the same time but not everyone has a transponder yet.
Also, if any one borrowed a transponder from me a meet or two ago, please let me know as I am already missing one of the two that I purchased for club loaners.
I want to thank y'all for coming out! Without you we wouldn't have such a great turn out at these GTG's!
Don't forget to reply back to the contest thread with your submissions for Group/Club names!
There's a years worth of free GTG entries & an awesome Charger up for grabs for the winner!

I have 20* narrow and 25* rear, but they ain't Kyosho... treaded GPM radials, so they might suck. In fact tomorrow will be my first run on RCP using them, but I can bring a set if you want.

Sure, bring 'em! I've always believed to have softer tires in the rear, but maybe I'll give this set-up a try. will you be using that setup? I'll ask how it works for you when I arrive and I'll see.

I just remembered I gave Ryan several pairs of GPM wide 20* radials, maybe you can get a pair from him if he brings them. One thing to note is that I am RM on my 2WD but I don't get a lot of opportunity to run on RCP so it might still be a few more months until I find my balance!

Yeah, we had some fun with some pictures....
We had about 10 guys on the track.
Marty, our host, picked himself up a MR03 & is ordering some 50cm track through me.
It sounds like 2 or so guys in his complex are running out to grab a car as well.
They will probably be setting up their own little group.
He will most likely join us from time to time, and we can join them in turn in the bigger room once in a while,.
I'd also like to start to rent the larger room in Guildford every few months for a larger layout.

Just found out I will be lunching with family tomorrow, so I won't be at the meet. Bummer, was really hoping to try the stock AWD gear diffs and springs on RCP. I have been running ultra-tightened ball diffs front and rear and hard springs for drifting and didn't bother changing anything for track racing so I wonder if that was what was causing my car to handle so poorly all this time. I had tons of cornering problems and on straights it seemed like hitting a bump in the track would launch my car off in another direction. Hope to run with you next time.

05-05-2012, 02:23 PM
Aww, I was hoping to borrow some 94mm gears off you for mine. Was gonna race w/ my yellow skyline body. Anyone able to spare me one? I may need a matching spur gear and motor mount (my AWD only came with one gear setting (short).
gctkaz
05-05-2012, 06:25 PM
Aww too bad, because I think I have an extra set of Atomic 94mm spurs that I never use since I run 90mm exclusively. I just put in an order at EGRmart too, since they dropped the price on the Kyosho 90mm aluminum spurs for a while, and I finally pulled the trigger. Needed to get a new main chassis for my AWD just to have at the ready, but you can bet I'm going to run this one until it breaks into two pieces.

I am looking for thoughts on changing up the next two club GTG's.
Currently the two next dates are:
June 3rd in Newton & June 10th in Whistler.
I'm toying with the idea of rolling both GTG's into one on the 3rd.
Who can make it on the 3rd if we decide to do that?!
I am MORE than willing to help organize carpools as I know I'll need to hitch a ride myself!
Can you make it on the 3rd to Whistler?
Do you need a ride or have some seats available?
Should we just stick to the posted dates for a GTG 2 weeks in a row?
Thoughts?
